Summary

"TxDOT has an automated process for requesting and distributing raw crash data, including both the standard interface and the public interface. These files include all the crash data collected from the Texas Peace Officer's Crash Report (CR-3) that may be released to the public in accordance with Texas law. The standard interface provides all information collected from the crash report, interpreted data fields, and roadway attributes for crashes occurring on the state highway system. The public interface is similar to the standard interface information; however, personal information about individuals involved in the crash has been excluded."

• When registering, choose "*Texas Department of Transportation" as your agency and "Crash Interface Files" as the part you'd like access to. Please see complete instructions available in the User Guide at http://ftp.dot.state.tx.us/pub/txdot-info/trf/crash_statistics/automated/cris-guide.pdf
• Standard and Public Extract File Specification files provide additional information about the types of data and data codes used in the crash reports.
• As of 2016, TxDOT has a 10-year retention period on this raw Crash Data. Prior to that time, the retention period was 5 years so any data prior to 2010 had already been purged and is no longer available from TxDOT. For more information, contact TxDOT directly.
