TxDOT Research Project

Connected Vehicle Wrong-Way Driving Detection & Mitigation Demonstration, Phase II

Project Summary
This project focuses on developing a concept of operations and functional requirements for a connected vehicle test bed for wrong-way driving applications that will notify TxDOT and emergency response vehicles and personnel, including but not limited to law enforcement vehicles, about wrong-way driving events. More specifically, this project is a foundational systems engineering and planning effort focusing on: 1. Identifying and selecting test bed locations. 2. Conducting needs assessments. 3. Developing a comprehensive concept of operations. 4. Engaging market suppliers to develop wrong-way driving connected vehicle cost information. 5. Creating financial requirements for test bed operations. 6. Designing and testing potential warning messaging for fixed signing and in-vehicle applications. 7. Outlining the system design for the selected wrong-way applications.
